Rivers Casino & Riverfront Park

The Rivers Casino and Riverfront Park has become an essential element of Pittsburgh’s riverfront renewal efforts, becoming a popular spot for events and creating a key trail connection as soon as it opened. Seizing the opportunity to engage a major entertainment venue directly with the riverfront, it shapes a dramatic blend of architecture and landscape as a public place. Beneath the buzz of musicians and cyclists, a new stormwater filtration system and large swaths of native plantings help to remediate this former brownfield site. Read more here>>

Pittsburgh Downtown Plan

This plan, created in the late 1990s, was part of a broader movement to reorient the city towards its riverfronts, while reinforcing downtown's role as the center of the region. By combining activities and momentum around districts, such as the Cultural District and a Sports & Entertainment District on the North Shore, with new mixed-use initiatives, notably housing, the plan has engendered a true 24-hour city. The intentions of this plan are still felt today as institutions and developers implement corresponding projects across downtown's districts and riverfront. View the plan here>>
